Please more TataNaka

During a lightning-quick visit to London last week, I met the twin sisters Tata and Naka (their real names are Tamara and Natasha). Born in Georgia, they founded their label, Tata-Naka, in 2000 after being graduated at St. Martins, the school that has trained all of fashion’s new guard since the ’90s. I probably don’t even need to bother mentioning that I felt immediately at ease with the Tata-Naka sisters: I loved the colors and humor in their clothes, and the unbridled creativity of these two girls, who do everything with four hands. Each collection is based around a central theme, like Motown, American High Schools, or Pina Bausch. Their latest one is inspired by the Ballets Russes. For me, the Ballets Russes is the ultimate reference. Basically, we were meant to meet each other, the Tata-Naka sisters and I. Thanks to Instagram, I found once again people who share my passion for fashion, color, and vintage inspiration. Tata-Naka is a bit all over the place right now, with four collections per year, presented in London during funky happening showings, with crazy prints almost entirely designed by hand. But Tata-Naka, it’s also picturesque selfies in the elevator of their office, a Russian fashion pack that supports them at all costs (headed by Miroslava!), and T-Shirts exclusively sold through Net-A-Porter… all of that just shows us that globalization and social networks can also do good!
