PHENOMENAL FASHION

Le smoking by Pallas

Nothing screams “timeless elegance” more than a beautifully cut two-piece suit. Remember the model/actress Aymeline Valade at Cannes, chosing to present Bertrand Bonello’s Saint Laurent film in a perfect jet-black smoking? In one outfit, she both outshone the rest of the traditional red carpet dresses AND proved that she is indeed the modern day Betty Catroux.

The smoking Aymeline wore was custom-made by the Parisian house Pallas, founded in 1960 and helmed this season by design duo Allegria Torassa and Niki Pauls. Historically, the atelier created designs for major French fashion houses such as Balenciaga or Celine; now a fashion brand itself, Pallas explores the relationship between the feminine form and a more masculine silhouette, playing on heavy 70’s references. For autumn-winter 15, Pallas strays away from the Parisian nightlife – Allegria and Niki are also the founders of the famed Cicciolina events – dreaming up the ideal daytime vestiaire made of the perfect cashmere coat, a grey pinstripe suit and exquisite goatskin pumps crafted by atelier Massaro, or even bespoke gloves by George Morand. True “petite couture” – Saint Laurent would be proud! FB
