Far from fellow British brand Shrimps’s sugar-coated designs, Emma Brewin’s faux fur coats scream old Hollywood glamour, all in vibrant colors and fierce cuts – and they’re all 100% made in the UK. Rapper Iggy Azalea is a fan, and Lena Dunham wears one of Emma’s pastel creations on the latest cover of Paper Magazine. Shot by the unrivalled Nadia Lee, Emma Brewin’s latest collection is set in the cinematographic environment of scorching California, alongside a jet-black Gorilla. King Kong revisited, but with better clothes. We catch up with the Kent-born and based designer (whose girly, tongue-in-cheek Instagram account is one of our personal favorites) following the launch of her brand new website…
When creating, where do you find inspiration?
Beautiful surroundings; my studio right by a river in a little town called Sandwich and being there, with wonderful music playing really excites my mind. Anything old also makes me feel incredibly amazing.
In three words, how would you describe your creative universe?
Sexy, compassionate and eccentric.
How was it working with photographer Nadia Lee Cohen, such a visually strong personality?
Nadia is a wizard, her work speaks for itself. I trusted Nadia’s vision and freedom and she created a piece of art that I will treasure forever.
Which person, dead or alive, who you dream of seeing in your creations?
I recently made a coat for Lena Dunham and not only is she an idol of mine for a multitude of reasons but she is one of the most caring, kind-hearted and bad ass women that I have ever had the pleasure of knowing.
What’s next for the brand?
I have a little capsule collection of accessory loveliness that I am launching in a matter of weeks. [check ou the surrealistic Oyster Cup Keyring!]
