Guests were greeted by kimono-wearing Japanese waitresses at Olympia Le-Tan‘s “Sentimental Journey” SS16 show, setting the theme for the designer’s most Oriental-inspired show to date. Even if her creations have always verged on the “kawai” (“cute” in Japanese), a step further is taken this season, with models holding My Melody embroidered clutches, created with Japanese retailer Sanrio (founder of the Hello Kitty franchise). Count on the silhouettes to inject a welcome dose of chic – red tights, nipped-in waists, kimono sleeves and tethering heels were deeply sensual, yet nostalgic : Le-Tan’s collection was conceived in memory of the famous Hotel Okura, recently demolished.
